Plains of Abraham 13 September, 1759, Quebec

This is our Nova Scotia version of the battle.

　The French regular line falls out of the walls of Quebec to try and push the British back.

The British line quietly awaits the French attack.

Amerindians allied with the French attempt to creep up on the rear of the British line

General action has commenced, with the French once again, unable to smash into the British line. The only hope for the French is for the Amerindians to put pressure on the British who could possibly pull back down the cliff. 

The Roast Beef by Hogarth

I have always been a fan of Hogarth's work. Gin Lane is one of my other favorite works.

In an era before photography, this artist was able to capture the essence of what life must have been like for the average person during the 18th century. This work, shows the human condition during the immediate aftermath of the war of 1744-48. 

In the right foreground, we have a Jacobite Highlander, who is reduced to the status of a refugee, subsiting nothing more than a piece of bread and an onion. The French soldiers are starving and in poor condition uniforms from the fighting, while a butcher carries a side of beef to a British Pub in Calis.

Christmas baking 2013

Just a month ago, a new shopping centre was rebuilt in Kamagaya. One of the shops is Kaldi! This shop is a coffee, foreign food import shop which sells things you usually can't find in Japan.

I found Lyle's Golde Syrup, which my Grandmother used to have. Molasses, which everyone and his dog back in Nova Scotia uses in the kitchen, cornmeal, canned pumpkin and betty crocker pastry mix.

So today is my baking day. Shots to follow

The Johnny Cake I made went over well. The molasses cookies everyone liked. Even the molasses cake was tasty.

I'll have to see if I can bake more tomorrow.

King Stephen and Prince Hummingbird

This shot was from our dance recital yesterday. We did Sleeping Beauty. I was King Stephen, Emi was the Queen. Leena was a butterfly and Ian was a humming bird. Though his costume looks like he is a palace guard.
My wife enrolled our two children in a community dance club which is called Friends Dance Club. Every two years, they put on a show. The dance styles run from Hip Hop, to modern interpretist to ballet. The ages run from children to adults. There was even a local samba drumming group made up of Japanese who play samba drums.

I`m calm, I`m at peace, I`m enlightened
