Warmer weather coming, so garage will be back in business

I was puttering around in my garage between work, sleep, shoveling snow and slush and then water issues.
I should be able to get two tables going this year.
Stay tuned.
I spent the day airing out and sorting off both my gaming tables. I'd like to try to run both, one for large games, the other for smaller skirmish ones.
However, with the influx of new kits, and reductions of my other collections, my project table will stay cluttered for a while.

King Phillips War 1675 Governor Winslow Attack on Connecticut River

This battle comes from a variety of sources. The inital idea came from the August 1999 issue of Miniature Wargames. In their Renaissance section an article by Simon Lee War in the Colonies: King Philip's War 1671-1676.
Roger Marsters Bold Privateers: Terror, Plunder and Profit on Canada's Atlantic Coast (2004) gave me some more ideas. The rules used were Slitherine/Osprey's
Field of Glory Renaissance.

New England troops, a combination of Pike and Shot with some ship guns, prepares to advance on the French and Indians who are blocking the river valley.
A large body of Huron warriors have rallied to try and drive the English from the Connecticut river valley.

Winslow's force consists of several regiments of militia, most armed with pikes and matchlocks, a few with flintlock or doglock muskets

The French forces however all have flintlocks. They have barricaded their end of the valley with fallen trees and some basic earthworks.

The English artillery open up and smash some of the fortifications to bits.

This enrages rather than discourages several groups of Hurons who charge out and engage the militia in impact charges.

The miltia pike and shot blocks are unable to make much headway towards the lines.

More and more Hurons rush the militia who are stalled in their advance.

One group is broken apart and slowly cut to pieces.

The first line of militia pike and shot blocks begin to fall back.

The militia units with more advanced firelocks begin to open fire holding back he surge of warriors

However, it proves to be too little too late

With a broken line and no clear way to break through, Winslow orders a withdrawl. New England may now be open to invasion!

Ideas for the new year

My 18th century gamming has dropped off for a bit. This hasn't been by choice, but rather, not much free time.
Any gamming I have gotten into has been on my other eras.
However, I will take a look at my minatures, and some of my historical books to come up with some new campaigns.
My Saratoga campaign is still one I want to finish up. Though this will be after Christmas.

Taking stock of my collection, and repairs

Recently, I'm planning on doing some painting and research on certain units. I keep meaning on putting together some unit histories up here, now that I have all of my books and kit together.

WOW 35,000

I've been craving having a black powder game, if only my co-worker doesn't keep messing up my day off schedule like getting sick or partying too much then getting sick.
There is always tomorrow

pike and shot vs fantasy

Ian painted up his metal fantasy figures he was given before he left Japan.

He then took our Aztec and Amerindian figures to add to his fantasy

And attacked a castle held by our European style Pike and shot figures

My RAFM American Colonial troops

This force is made up of a core group of 2nd Connecucuit Regiment along with some militia and provincial troops.

My RAFM Rangers 1754-65

I have painted up several companies of Rogers, Gorhams, New Jersey Frontier Guard,

RAFM British Line Regiments

While living in Japan, I was able to build up several regiments in plastic. These battalions/regiments are the ones I did not have painted up.
I have several buff/blue/and yellow faced regiments
Since this photo was taken, I've repainted several of these with yellow facings.
I now have every British Regiment which sent battalions to North America painted.
In future I shall be expanding my Highlanders Grenadiers

My RAFM Light Infantry

Originally, I had planned on building each group of Lights as a group of six figures, however, as with my AWI Lights, I have decided to make them as 2 figures per company
So far, I have painted  white/yellow/buff/green/orange companies. Added to some Highland companies as well.

My RAFM SYW Highlanders

I began to collect RAFM figures about 1989 while in high school. I am still painting them up.
Due to circumstances, I am limiting myself to the figures I have now.
So far I have painted up 42nd Royal Highland Regiment as of 1758 post Ticonderoga.
77th Regiment, will need their green facings added.
78th Fraser's Highlanders will still need some white or buff facings.
Since I took the photo, I have painted the flesh tones in.

All work no play

my promotion to field supervisor has meant I have one day off a week until the second supervisor is promoted to position. Consequently, my gamming has hit a snag. However, I am planning on playing some 18th century games once I pick up my metal figures from my Dad's place after the November 11th parade.
My work schedule should be smoothing out.

basing basing and more basing

I'm still sorting out what I had here in storage in Canada, and what I sent back from Japan.
With the cold weather coming, and my work schedule going to stabilise, I should be back into 18th century gaming soon.

Man cave update

My themed storage begins, under my table. At least I have my little boxes out of the shipping parcels

My military history library, up off the floor, I still don't have book shelves yet.

Work in progress figures, the blue ones are French Foreign Legion, but may also get painted as early Great War French. My goal is to base every one of my figures. I have the time, on weekends

WOW 30,000 hits!

I just noticed that this blog has hit the 30,000 hit mark. Now I know that's not much in the blogging world, but for me, it's nice to see that some of my ramblings are actually interesting to some people.

Unpacking my kit

I was able to go to customs, get my shipment stamped, then yesterday was spent ferrying the parcels from the warehouse to my home.
While I was at work, my family began to unpack, then I've spent the last hour unpacking my history books, and the rest of my war gamming kit. WOW.

Medical insurance, housing

Two more major items to check off the bucket list, here in Nova Scotia, Canada, we have socialized medicine like the rest of Canada. My family is taken care of.
We were also able to secure a home for us for a year thanks to the help of one of my old high school classmates who is a realitor, and also owner of a building which needs to be fixed up.
So, Irishhighlander will indeed have a new home, and a man cave to be a part of.

Irishhighlander is now in Canada!

My family and I have decided to return to Nova Scotia, Canada. We are now looking for a home so that I can take care of my wife's immigration, and a place to call our own home.
As such, this blog will start to have some more exciting events posted. Gamming will recommence once I get a house and can move my gear in storage in.
